Hydroponics is the future of farming!
For whatever reason you are interested in growing your own plants, hydroponics is the answer. Hydroponics minimizes the problems a person would face either he does it as a hobby or for production.
Hydroponics ensures that all the elements needed for the ultimate growth of a plant are met. Most of us, relate soil with growing although there is no need for it because it only slows down the process and makes things more complicated having to regulate the pH level. Trying to find the ideal soil for the exact type of the plant doesn’t really help to individualize the needs of each plant and also makes it more difficult for it to reach the nutrients and the amount of water it needs. Approximately 98% of the water for planting is wasted with soil.
Types of Hydroponic systems
The N.F.T system is at the forefront of people’s minds when hydroponics is mentioned. Nutrient Film Technique uses a constant flow of your Growth Technology nutrient solution (no timer is required). The solution is pumped from a reservoir into the growing tray. The growing tray requires no growing medium. The roots draw up the nutrients from the flowing solution. The downward flow pours back into the reservoir to be recycled again. Pump and electric maintenance is essential to avoid system failures, where roots can dry out rapidly when the flow stops.
Aeroponic systems are seen to be a high tech method of hydroponic growing. Like the N.F.T system the growing medium is primarily air. The roots hang in the air and are misted with nutrient solution. The misting of roots is usually done every few minutes. The roots will dry out rapidly if the misting cycles are interrupted. A timer controls the nutrient pump much like other types of hydroponic systems, except the aeroponic system needs a short cycle timer that runs the pump for a few seconds every couple of minutes.
This system is an active system with moving parts. As active hydroponic systems go, water culture is the simplest. The roots of the plant are totally immersed in the water which contains the specific Growth Technology nutrient solutions. An air pump with help oxygenate the water and allow the roots to breathe. NOTE. Very few plants other than lettuce will do well in this type of system.
Hydroponics gives you the total control of the environment where the plant grows so the perfect conditions for it can be met. Imagine if you decide to grow your own lettuce! It would take you two moths to see the results of your efforts, but with hydroponics in just few weeks you will have lettuce ready for consumption with less fertilizers, less space needed and most importantly made by you.
It is also important to mention that hydroponics is proved to have several environmental benefits with less water consumption, less fertilizer and reduced CO2 emissions arising from the costly food transportation.
Our mission is to make hydroponics accessible to everyone with no prior knowledge of gardening.
